We often get asked for recommendations for places to stay, places to eat and things to do by house hunters coming to the area. Over the years we have gathered a lot of information of this sort and thought it would be a good idea to share some of these with you. So today we are starting with ‘Places to stay’ whist house-hunting in the Aude…….
B & B/Chambres d’Hotes
La Soqueto, Mirepeisset – Check out this welcoming bed & breakfast in the village of Mirepeisset, a Canalside village which also happens to be on the banks of the river Cesse. La Souqueto, which won the Tripadvisor’s ‘Travellers’ Choice’ award in 2015, is run by a charming British couple, Jon and Melanie Alport. Having made the move from the UK in search of the ‘good life’ themselves, they will happily share their experiences and local knowledge with their guests.

L’Olivier, Salleles d’Aude – We sold this beautiful Maison de Maitre in the village of Salleles d’Aude to the Merretts five years ago. Since then, Jill & Jonathan have created a warm and inviting Chambres d’hotes, where guests can relax and feel right at home. Especially inviting are the private secluded gardens and swimming pool. They also offer table d’hote, so you can dine in after a heavy day of house hunting….

Le Palmier Caché, St. Marcel sur Aude – Right next to us, is this elegant ‘Maison de Maître’ converted into a stylish Chambres d’hôtes by Cindy & Frank Lorrentop-Blockmans, who bought the property from us about 5 years ago. The Italianate garden has been restored to its former glory and with the addition of a fabulous swimming pool, its a place of quiet contemplation after a hard day’s house-hunting in the Aude

Le Bobo, Bize Minervois – If you looking for sophisticated chic, then Le BoBo, in the ever popular village of Bize Minervois, is definitely the place for you. The name, Le Bobo – which stands for Bourgeoise and Bohemian- really says it all about this place. Be prepared to be charmed!

Gites
Maison de la Roche, Ferrals les Corbieres – In the heart of Corbieres countryside, owned and run by the dynamic Honor Marks, is Maison de la Roche. This family friendly complex offers 3 two bedroom gites, each with its distinct style and charm. Honor pulls out all the stops to ensure that her guests have an unforgettable experience at her gites.

Chateau Massignan, St. Marcel sur Aude – Owned and run by our good friends and neighbours Caroline & Justin Stauber, this is a large gite complex set in an idyllic, elevated position on the exit from our village. There are a number of 2 and 3 bedroom gites, so they can accommodate large family groups. The private, extensive grounds offer something for everyone in the family, from swimming pool to play area to wine shop.

Chateau de la Motte, Marcogrinan – Also owned by good friends of ours in the neighbouring village of Marcorignan is Chateau de la Motte. Gaetan and Kristina de Seguin des Hons are a French Danish couple and Gaetan is a renowned local artist. The Chateau is set in 50ha of private grounds with olive trees, pines and oleander bushes giving an impression of being deep in the countryside whilst in reality, you are just on the outskirts of the village.

Domaine de Puychene, St. Nazaire d’Aude – The new kid on the block! This once dilapidated domaine in the heart of neighbouring village of St. Nazaire d’Aude was purchased by Veronique and Phillipe Comte a couple of years ago and has been painstakingly restored to provide stylish accommodation for holidaymakers (and house-hunters!). Open in the summer of last year, the domaine offers 10 luxury gites, each with its own private landscaped garden.
